- 2005 – 2026
Founded in 2005 by siblings Hugo and James, Hugo & James began as a humble weekend pop-up in Melbourne’s historic Fitzroy neighborhood. What started as a shared passion for art, quality fabrics, and timeless design soon blossomed into a beloved boutique rooted in creativity and care.
A Family Affair
From the start, Hugo & James was more than just a shop—it was a family venture. Hugo curated collections with an eye for detail, James offered impeccable bespoke tailoring, and their mother, Sylvia, brought warmth to every corner of the store. As time passed, younger family members joined in, helping the boutique evolve while staying true to its founding spirit.
A Journey Through the Years
2005–2010 – Opened in Fitzroy with a focus on limited-edition menswear and women’s accessories.
2011–2015 – Introduced vintage-inspired ready-to-wear, soft furnishings, and hosted exhibitions for local artists.
2016–2020 – Moved to Collingwood, launched our own ethically-sourced label, and partnered with emerging designers.
2021–Present – Celebrated 15 years with a second location in Armadale, featuring a linen café and tailoring studio.
